How to Fix Temporary Mailbox message and/or a corrupted Outlook profile (Windows)

This information is regarding fixing your Outlook desktop application to access your email. You can also access your email by going to www.Normandale.edu/email.

If you are prompted to log into a temporary Outlook profile, this means that your Outlook profile has become corrupted or has issues on this computer. A temporary profile has the potential for issues and you want to set up your permanent profile rather than continuing with your temporary profile. 

 

Delete an Outlook Mail Profile from Control Panel

Delete an Outlook Mail Profile

Please note:  This will NOT delete your emails and calendar. Your email and calendar will stay intact. This is only to remove your corrupt mail profile on this computer and to create a new one.

  1. Close Outlook and close / exit Teams.
  2. Open Control Panel by clicking the Windows key and typing Control Panel
  3. In Control Panel, change the "View by:" in the upper-right-hand corner to Small icons then click the Mail icon
  4. Click the Show Profiles button.
  5. Highlight the profile to be deleted and click the Remove button and delete the Outlook profile.
  6. Click OK

 

Create a new Outlook Mail Profile from Control Panel

Manually set up a new Outlook Profile

  1. Click on Start and type Control Panel
  2. Click on User Accounts > Mail (Microsoft Outlook 2016)
  3. Click Show Profiles
  4. Click Add and enter in Profile Name: Outlook
  5. Change the Email Address to StarID@minnstate.edu and enter your StarID password twice
  6. Click Next and Finish
  7. Change Always use this profile to the profile you just created.
  8. Click OK

Then, open Outlook and wait several minutes for your emails and calendar to populate and synchronize.
