New Faculty & Staff - Get Started

StarID

Your StarID is the username that will be used across the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities to access systems and services including D2L, campus computers, and wireless. Your StarID password expires every 180 days.

Get Started: go to the StarID Self Service and click Activate StarID. You can activate your account using your Tech ID or your State Employee number. When activating your StarID, you will set up a password. Do not share your password with anyone.

Note: It is important that you update your StarID Notification Email to your personal email address since any communications about your StarID, such as password change reminders, will be sent to your StarID Notification Email address. To do this, click "Manage Profile" on the StarID website.

Email

Normandale Community College uses Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence. Your email account will already have been created along with your StarID.

Access email via your Outlook: simply login to your computer and launch Microsoft Outlook from the Windows Start Menu. When Outlook opens for the first time, it will walk you through setup. Please make sure you change the default Normandale email address listed to StarID@minnstate.edu in order to set up your email.

Access email on the web: Go to the Normandale website and click on the Email link on top of the page. Log in with:

  • Username: StarID@minnstate.edu
  • Password: your StarID password

Note: your username and email address are not the same. What is my Normandale email address?

First Time Microsoft 365 Email Login

The first time you log in, you will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This is important, because it helps protect your Microsoft 365 email account to keep it safe. If you see the message "More information required" when you log in, you will need to set up MFA.

Phone and Voicemail

Get Started: Normandale uses Microsoft Teams Calling as our phone system. You can install and use Teams on any device to make and take calls or use Teams in any web browser. You can get started by logging into Microsoft 365 and clicking on Teams.

Checking voicemail: Voicemail will be delivered into your mailbox and will also be available on Teams. You can listen to voicemail messages right on your computer.
